Getting Started with GPS Vehicle Tracking at Datalink

Welcome to Datalink Technologies’ GPS vehicle tracking knowledge base. This guide will help you understand how to get started with your GPS tracking device and begin monitoring your fleet.

What is GPS Vehicle Tracking?

GPS vehicle tracking uses satellite-based positioning technology to record the real-time location of your vehicles, assets, and mobile workforce. Datalink’s GPS tracking solutions give you live visibility over your fleet, historical trip data, alerts for key events, and comprehensive reporting — all from a single platform.

How It Works

Once your GPS tracking device is installed and powered on, it begins acquiring location data from GPS satellites. This data, combined with other onboard sensor readings (such as ignition status, speed, and digital inputs), is transmitted over a cellular or wireless network to the Datalink platform where you can view it on a map, run reports, and configure alerts.

First Steps

  1. Ensure your device is properly installed and wired to vehicle power and ignition.
  2. Confirm the device has a working SIM card with mobile data enabled.
  3. Log in to your Datalink tracking platform account.
  4. Locate your device on the live map — it should appear within a few minutes of being powered on.
  5. Configure your key alerts such as speeding, after-hours use, and geofence breaches.
