Setting Up After-Hours Alerts for Your Fleet

After-hours alerts allow you to monitor vehicle usage outside of approved business hours, helping you identify unauthorised use, reduce fuel costs, and ensure driver accountability.

What are After-Hours Alerts?

After-hours alerts notify you when one of your tracked vehicles is used outside of your defined business hours. For example, if your business operates Monday to Friday, 7am–6pm, any vehicle movement detected outside these hours will trigger an alert.

How After-Hours Monitoring Works

Datalink GPS tracking devices continuously monitor ignition status and vehicle movement. When the platform detects activity during a time period outside your configured business hours schedule, it generates an alert and logs an event. You can receive these alerts via email, SMS, or within the tracking platform’s notification centre.

Setting Up After-Hours Schedules

To configure after-hours alerts:

  1. Log in to your Datalink tracking platform.
  2. Navigate to the Alerts or Notifications section.
  3. Select ‘After Hours’ alert type.
  4. Define your business hours schedule (e.g., Mon–Fri, 7:00am–6:00pm).
  5. Select the vehicles or groups you wish to monitor.
  6. Choose your notification method (email, SMS, or in-app).
  7. Save your configuration.

After-Hours Immobilisation

For added security, Datalink devices with digital output capability can be configured to automatically immobilise a vehicle during after-hours periods. This prevents the vehicle from starting outside of approved hours unless overridden by an authorised operator. This feature requires a relay immobiliser to be installed by a qualified auto-electrician.

Practical Tips

  • Apply after-hours alerts to high-value vehicles or equipment first.
  • Review your alert history weekly to identify patterns of misuse.
  • Combine after-hours alerts with geofence alerts for comprehensive protection.
