The DY1 is compact battery-powered GPS 4G Cat-M1/NB1 is perfect for mounting to small assets or in a concealed location. Available in 2G or 4G Cat-M1/Nb-IoT.

The 4G Modem allows for very-low power operation, and a compact size. Even with the small AAA batteries, up to 3 year’s battery life is achievable!

Tiny Form Factor

The DY1 measures just 85 x 63 x 24 mm! Enclosed in the housing is the GPS and Cellular antennas plus the 3 x AAA battery holder.

The compact size means it can be attached to any number of assets such as; Pallets, beer kegs, bikes, animals, livestock and parcels.

Conceal it in trailer lights, hide it in bags, the possibilities are endless!

4G Cat-M1/NB-IoT Modem

The DY1’s 4G modem is compatible with both Cat-M1 and Nb-IoT networks – enabling great new benefits. Traditional cellular network specifications (like 4G LTE Cat 9/12) are designed to provide high speeds and bandwidth – to enable smartphone users to stream videos and facilitate other data-intensive activities.

IoT devices don’t need this type of bandwidth and are typically trying to solve other problems. These IoT devices require

  • Small data messages typically at low data rates
  • Long Range
  • Low power to allow for long battery life
  • Low cost – to facilitate the deployment of many millions of them

The LTE Cat-M1 and NB1 specifications allow the cellular modem (uBlox SARA R4) to be simpler and smaller, and in turn the DY1. In our testing we have measured that our new Cat-M1 devices use anywhere from 1/2 to 1/3 of the power of our 3G devices to perform a data upload. This allows the DY1 to still have excellent battery life (up to 3 years) on just 3 AAA batteries!

Encryption

The DY1 uses bank-level AES-256 device authentication and data encryption to ensure that your data is kept private and secure.

Firmware Smarts

Adaptive Tracking

The DY1 can intelligently use the accelerometer to adapt the rate at which it gets a Wi-Fi fix and sends it on the network. For the longest battery life the DY1 can be set to do periodic updates, for example once per day.

OTA Configuration

The DY1 can be remotely configured and updated OTA (over the air). Device management is performed from Datalink Technology’s OEM Server device management platform.

Recovery Mode

The DY1 can be remotely switched into Recovery Mode, which switches the device to live tracking and reporting – so that you can get your asset back!

G-Force Events

The 3D accelerometer enables High-G event detection, like assets being dropped or involved in accidents, and reports these to the server.

AES-256 Security

The DY1 uses bank-level AES-256 data authentication and data encryption to ensure that your data is kept private and secure.

Man-Down Alerts

The DY1 can be configured to send an alert to the server when the device has not moved for a set amount of time. Handy for livestock, shipments etc.

After Hours

The device can be set to alert on after-hours activity, and to use alternate logging parameters.

Geo-Fences

The DY1 has the capacity to hold hundreds of geo-fences that can be downloaded to it from the server and updated Over-the-Air. A future firmware version will enable alerts to be sent to the server upon entering or leaving a geo-fence, and alternate logging parameters to be used when inside a geofence.

Firmware Smarts

Auto-APN

Auto-APN allows the DB1 to analyse the SIM card and select the correct APN details from a list that is pre-loaded in the device’s firmware. This means that the device can be shipped world-wide without requiring specialist setup for SIMs. This is a work in progress for the new LTE Cat-M1 networks.

Text Message Setup

The DB1 can also be setup via text messages for the APN, server and other details.

AssistNow Offline

The DB1 will track successfully where other devices just give up.

This fantastic technology allows the GPS to predict which satellites are in orbit above it and to dramatically reduce the time-to-first-fix of the GPS, and the overall performance of the GPS, especially in ‘urban canyon’ or forested environments.

Flexible Logging Parameters

The DB1 trip logging is flexible and can be configured to log based on a variety of parameters including:

  • Elapsed time
  • Distance travelled
  • Change in heading
  • Change in speed
  • When stationary
  • Accelerometer events (harsh driving)

Accident and Rollover Detection

The DB1 uses the built-in accelerometer to detect high G impacts such as accidents and rollovers and reports these events to the server for emergency alerting.

Harsh Driving

The DB1 automatically calibrates its built-in 3 axis accelerometer and uses this to detect harsh driving events:

  • Excessive acceleration
  • Harsh braking
  • Cornering at speed

These events are logged along with additional event statistics that allow back-end server platforms to perform sophisticated driver profiling and scoring.

Accident Data

The DB1 keeps a second-by-second “black box” recording of valuable GPS and accelerometer data for a two hour window. This data can be automatically uploaded to the server when an accident is detected, or it can be requested manually.

Emulated Ignition

This setting allows the DB1 to determine that a trip has started based on accelerometer and GPS data and to automatically set the ‘ignition’ input on the device to emulate the ignition line.

This means that the device can be installed with the option of not wiring in the ignition line and ‘emulating’ the ignition based on movement.

Run Detect

This setting allows the DB1 to monitor the system voltage and to detect changes in the voltage that indicate if the engine is running or not

Device Management – OEM Server

All Datalink Techonlogies devices are fully managed Over-The-Air (OTA) via our OEM Server web interface. The OEM Server seamlessly manages:

  • Device firmware – firmware updates can be done remotely
  • Network (administrator) parameters relating to critical communications
  • System parameters, including GPS parameters, IO configuration, logging options and general device behaviour settings
  • GPS AssistNow Offline aiding data files
  • Remote debugging of devices, including being able to trace data, view detailed debug message logs, and view a live trace of the server debug messages
  • Remote disconnect and reboot of devices
  • Driver list downloads to devices – this allows for the Driver Identification on the device to check if the RFID tag / username / PIN is valid, and for specific drivers to be allowed to drive / operate particular vehicles, for example based on licences or permits.
  • Geo-fence syncing with the devices – this allows the device to do advanced in-cab alerting and monitoring such as geo-fence arrival and departure, speed limit alerting, dangerous intersection warnings, turn on warning lights inside a geo-fence, and disable communications inside intrinsically safe zones such as gas plants.
  • Provides a command and message queueing platform to the devices and is incorporated into the remote management and debugging applications

Data Connectors

The OEM Server provides Data Connectors that forward data records on to the software platform of your choice, including Datalink Techonlogies’s own Telematics Guru platform.

If you would like to integrate the DD2 into a software system then please contact Datalink Techonlogies on 03 9024-9400 for more information on our integration protocols.
